BAUHAUS

Lower East are fans of Bauhaus! For us a design assignment has succeeded, when function meet beauty – when aesthetics, form and production go into a higher unity. We are exited about the thoughts, forms, colours, architecture, furniture, graphics etc. of the Bauhaus-movement.

Bauhaus was the most significant school for architecture and crafts in the 20th Century. The Bauhaus style was characterized by its absence of ornamentation, its clean surfaces and of harmony between function, aesthetics and manufacturing. The art should meet the needs of the society. Bauhaus was founded in Weimar in 1919 by the architect Walter Gropius and the teaching staff consisted a.o. of Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and László Moholy-Nagy.

In 1925 the school moved to Dessau into buildings drawn by Gropius.
Gropius retired in 1928, and the new leader was the Swiss architect and communist Hannes Meyer, who gave the school a sharper political profile and provoked the citizenship and the right wing politicians.
